He finds himself working for paranormal creatures despite his resolve to stick with humans only. To supplement his income as a new PI Sam rents out rooms in the large house. Bob is a vampire and turns up on Sam's doorstep to rent a room. Sparks fly and Sam is attracted to the vampire despite himself. Sam is cursed by a witch, and has two cases landing on his desk. Werewolves, annoying ghosts and a grumpy gargoyle are enough to drive Sam mad. But somehow in amongst all of this he has to find a missing fae and a missing shifter child. There are none here. The writing flows smoothly and seamlessly I wouldn't be able to tell you who wrote what. The world describe within the story was easily imagined as where the characters. MM Good Book Reviews 4/5 - I really enjoyed this first story in the End Street Detective Agency and I am looking forward to more. We are introduced to an interesting array of characters and some very interesting cases that we delve into. We see as Sam struggles with his attraction to Bob and as they come together, with Sam still not really understanding the depth of Bob’s feelings. The storyline is cool, the cupid curse was very interestingly carried out and the various paranormal we come across are great. Sirens, Vampires, Werewolves, Gargoyles, Ghosts, Fae, Witches and a cat familiar, they all add that little spark of magic that makes this a great story. Hearts On Fire Reviews 4/5 - This was a fun and action packed read. There is something about Sam that attracts paranormal creatures but also nullifies the effects on their magic. Bob and Sam were a great couple and well developed characters. I enjoyed Bob’s protectiveness toward Sam even if it was sometimes misplaced. The old witch and the Cupid Curse that she put on Bob made for some laughs until the half vampire, Mikhail comes up with a way to neutralize the spell. The story is jam packed with secondary characters that range from the fairly mundane twin fae to the dangerous and exotic siren with a whole slew of werewolves thrown in on the side. The result is a plate full of crazy for Sam and an interesting story for the reader. Long and Short Reviews - I recommend this book for the gritty storyline, the sexy men and the imaginative world the authors have created. Excerpt Sam Enderson stood outside his building and smiled with pride. The fresh sign painted on the door in crisp black letters read 'End Street Detective Agency'. Examining the overall effect, he nodded in satisfaction. This move to becoming a private investigator was as far from being a timid bookseller as he could get. No one would walk all over someone who investigated crimes for a living. Three months of correspondence school and a shiny new multi-weapon licence had given his confidence a much-needed boost. After the hellish past year, in which he’d found his boyfriend in bed with his now ex-best friend, followed by the death of his favourite uncle, Sam was ready for a new start in life. Uncle Hanson. Just thinking about him made Sam feel sad. He had fond memories of visiting his uncle at work. The man had always liked Sam. He evidently had carried that affection into Sam’s adult life. After all, he had left Sam an entire building in his will, the building Sam now stood in front of. An office with accommodations over the top, it was worth quite a bit of money despite its proximity to an undesirable area. "You should sell," his friend Oscar had said. Oscar had had no love for Uncle Hanson. In a sniffy tone, he’d often consigned Hanson to the idiot pile and called him ‘odd’. "I don’t want to sell," Sam had protested. "What are you going to do with it?" Oscar had asked. "Open up my own agency." Oscar still wasn’t speaking to him, even now, three months later. Sam sighed at the memory then mentally pushed it all to one side to admire his property. The lower half consisted of a business office and reception area, with the upper two floors divided into four apartments. Three were empty but his uncle had filled the fourth one with notes from his own investigative practice. That room was high on his list of things to sort out, but he first needed to concentrate on renting out one of the empty apartments. Sam may have inherited the house, but it hadn’t exactly come with a burgeoning bank account to match. Forty years of being a detective and all Hanson had had to show for it was this building, a small bank account and a room full of papers. Sam was determined to be different. He even had a five-year plan in place. Sam didn’t doubt for one minute that he knew exactly why his uncle had had little money to speak of. Uncle Hanson had done too much pro bono work for them. Filing cabinets and boxes overflowed with notes from years of being a private detective. A lot of those papers included cases involving aspects of the paranormal, things Sam thought better left alone. Sam didn’t have a drop of supernatural blood in his entire body and he didn’t plan on associating with those who did. It hadn’t exactly worked out for his uncle. Paranormals had their place. Hell, they owned half the city. Vampires and werewolves, witches, fae and pixies—they all had their own parishes. Neighbourhoods where they lived amongst their own kind. Like enjoyed living with like, and, although they often mixed and matched, no one in Sam’s family had ever crossed the romantic boundary between the magical and the not. Sam didn’t count his second cousin Christa, who had taken up with a blood demon. There was a bad seed in every batch.

There will NOT be a paperback available from Silver. How did we know Matt had autism?

I was asked by a friend on line today "How did I know Matt had autism?" That is a really interesting question. To the left is a picture of Matt taken last year. The first thing you'll notice about Matt is that he doesn't look any different to a *normal child*. He looks like a normal, neurotypical, child. He wasn't born with a label, or a physical manifestation of what was going on inside his head. His birth was a good one. Easy even compared to the pre-eclampsia I had with B. He was born a health 8lb3oz and his scores straight away for the normal stuff were perfect. We were out of hospital in less than a day. B and M were both good babies. Both slept through the night more or less straight away and M was a greedy baby who finished every bottle (unlike his sparrow like sister!) B was the last of my antenatal group to walk and she loved sleeping, she's lazy like her mum! But Matt was climbing out of his cot at eight months, and walking at nine months. He was a determined little boy but he was prone to tantrum type crying and he wouldn't listen to the word *no*. By the time he was one he was copying his dad (who works with computers) and he would take a screwdriver and poke it into electric sockets. Not good as you can imagine. Physically he was normal, on the 75th percentile and growing well; but his fascination with vacuum cleaners was just starting. He would stare at them, climb on them, take them apart. If he couldn't get into the cupboard to the hoover he would determinedly try and break in. He would pull at locks and doors and pull and pull until even the strongest locks would give way. Not the locks themselves but the wall, or the wood, around them. He wouldn't stay in his room for naps, in fact he wasn't that interested in sleeping and naps. To keep him in his room to sleep at night we had to literally block him in his room. The room had to be emptied of everything except his mattress and some toys as he would pull drawers out and pull over cupboards such was the strength he found when he was mid tantrum. By this time my lowish post natal depression had manifested into depression and my poor daughter was starting school and leaving a mom who was in a terrible state. Being sensitive this upset her a lot. Being the sibling of a special needs child is hard. Really hard. It is also rewarding and loving. But at the core it is far from easy. In the UK, (and I don't remember accurately at what time - two maybe?), the health visitor is booked to assess child's progress against a set of *normal averages* that could be expected. Matt was off the chart. In a good way he was physically strong. In a bad way he was physically strong. :-( He had obsessions, he wouldn't sit still, he wouldn't listen to instructions or learn from mistakes. He was stubborn, intractable, and obsessed. He didn't interact with other kids, nor was he able to take turns or share. She referred us to a special child psychologist. At this point we felt like the worst parents in the world. What were WE doing to cause this? Were we not strict enough? Was I too depressed? The questions you ask yourself are terrible like it is YOUR fault that your child is a screaming mess of chaos. There was no peace from it. Ever. I mean, what kind of normal parents lock their child in a room just to get sleep. But we had to, just for our sanity. He would sit and rock a little, and he took to sometimes banging himself on the radiator, luckily for us these early autistic traits went no further. When we went to the psychologist, I guess Matt was just over two, he was climbing her bookcase to the ceiling. no joke. Hubby was stood trying to keep him safe, I was in meltdown and shock. Then she said one sentence that will live with me forever. She said, "goodness, I don't know how you have managed for so long without help." At just over two Matthew was fitting every single tickbox for Semantic/Pragmatic Language Disorder. But he wasn't autistic. He couldn't be. Then they added the short sentence *with associated social communication difficulties* and that, for wont of another explanation is autism.

Matt and his obsession with ceiling fans
Matt is the most difficult, most rewarding, intelligent, exasperating, normal, not normal, child ever. He was in nappies (diapers) until he was five and will happily eat frozen food from the freezer such as fish fingers or frozen chicken. (The fridge is locked in the garage now!) His intense focus on hoovers lasted until he was maybe 8 ish. His focus is now on ceiling fans (spinning items is a very common thing for autistic kids to focus on) and on Pylons (they carry electric across the fields - not sure what you would call them outside the UK). He has a high threshold for pain. From being a baby when he fell over he would just dust himself off and carry on. He never looked for sympathy or hugs. We are lucky. Matt is verbal, although it is sometimes difficult to make sense of what he is saying. He adores Thomas, Horrid Henry and Tom & Jerry. He will often repeat entire episodes over and over and over (and then over again!) He is stubborn and selfish in his needs, and then sometimes he isn't (very rarely!). He tantrums and moans and then he has peaceful times and it's like he is normal. Matt is now in a special school with small classes that caters for kids with a wide variety of disorders including those on then Autistic spectrum. He just turned 13 and he is mostly a very happy child. If YOU think your child is different, then the best thing you can do, for you, your family and most importantly for the child themselves, is to seek help and support. The more we understand about Matt and how his brain works, the easier things become. The more he can understand of himself the more he can self regulate. Win/Win really. Did you know?

Autism doesn't just affect children. Children with autism grow up to be adults with autism.

Over 40% of children with autism have been bullied at school.

Autism is a hidden disability - you can't always tell if someone has it.

Autism is a lifelong developmental disability that affects how a person communicates with, and relates to, other people. It also affects how they make sense of the world around them.

It is a spectrum condition, which means that, while all people with autism share certain difficulties, their condition will affect them in different ways.

People with autism may also experience over- or under-sensitivity to sounds, touch, tastes, smells, light or colours.

DON'T FORGET THE COMPETITION TO WIN VOUCHERS FROM Total E-Bound, eXtasy and Love Lane Books

In fact before my son was born my only exposure to autism was the Dustin Hoffman / Tom Cruise film Rainman. I know what I thought autism was. Disabled. Non Vocal. No life. Shut inside. Weird. Untouchable. Then I learned that actually my baby son was likely to end up being sent away to school, would never be able to love me, would never show affection, would never understand the world. In fact, I should consider that effectively my daughter was an only child. I had no idea what dealing with a disabled child meant and I didn't question anything the Health Visitor told me. You wouldn't question at first because you didn't have all the facts except those with *experience* gave you. Bollocks to that. Then you learn. Matt was talking at five and was out of nappies at five. He had tantrums like you would not believe but he also cuddled us. He didn't appear to understand no, which led to a few trips to casualty (ER), but he was bright and at the age of one copied his dad by taking a screwdriver and trying to unscrew a plug in the wall. Which brings me to danger. He doesn't really have a full awareness of danger, or consequence of action. Which is kind of scary at times. But, he's a boy of 14 with the careless abandon of a six year old. He climbs and slides and jumps and shouts and he has a life and a world in his head which never fails to amaze me. He is creative, funny, writes episodes for a TV show he has in his head called The Amazing Furze Down Adventures. He counts ceiling fans and can tell you what type of fan is in what shop and whether it was clean/dirty or on/off. He hoards facts about fans like a neurotypical kid would about pokemon, or football, or baseball. Where does this link to prejudice? It's the same as what I said last year, and what I say every day. Education is key, about autism, cancer, MS, politics, people, gender, sexuality. If you know more about the people behind the labels *disabled*, *gay*, *liberal*, *female*, *religious* and so many others, then you start to learn that these term are simply a convenient way for society to group like with like. And does this mean I am unprejudiced because I am an intelligent modern woman who knows all this? No way. I wish I could type here that I have no prejudice in me but I would be lying. I doubt any one of us doesn't have prejudice somewhere inside us. We all judge other people and groups of people. I don't suffer fools gladly - it takes an awful lot to wind me up but for the first time I know I have felt real hate this year for someone. I have also had my tentative trust in some people destroyed and now sit firmly back in my prejudiced view of them. I can't help it. I am human. I wish the UK wasn't sinking under immigration issues and that I could see through the prejudice I have when my taxes go up to deal with the problems. I wish chavs like Katie Price didn't act like idiots (and I judge them for it). I wish I could see past Jimmy Saville and not judge every male celebrity from his era the same way as I do him. So I have prejudice. So how can I expect others not to be prejudiced against me? For what I write, or believe, or for my son, or for homeschooling my daughter for two years, for what I earn, for what I don't earn, for being overweight, for driving a Ford, for... the list goes on... Tolerance and education is the key. I'll do it if you will... Interview with Jennifer Wright

I mean, remembering side characters, visuals, background stories, connections... I’ve had people say to me, “How can you not remember that this character has blue eyes? You’re the one who made him/her up.” I simply counteract it with, “How about you go and create 100+ characters and memorize every little detail about them.” Sure, I remember a lot, but not everything. So, for every story I write, I also create a document listing all of the characters and their details, places, some research, and any other miscellaneous notes that I may need to refer back to. I used to hand write it all out, but have found it’s much easier to use my computer. What is the best and the worst thing about being an author who writes in the m/m genre? The best thing about being an author who writes M/M is that I get to do something that I love, and I get to know and work with others that have just as much passion for the genre as I do. One of the worst things is that not all people like or agree with the genre, and I sometimes hear comments that really make me mad. The bigotry and nastiness I see from others about something I love, hurts sometimes. There is nothing wrong with what I write. But I am glad to see that the M/M genre is becoming more and more accepted every day. Character development is important to me when I read. I am always curious whether characters are based on people the author knows and research, or if they are based on pure fiction. So far, none of my characters reflect me or are based on people I know, they are all purely fiction. Though, I do have an idea for a book based off of a person and I know and a certain experience they went through. I haven’t quite decided yet as to whether or not I’m going to write it. Book blurb Keddrick has denied claiming his mate for four years, separating them by worlds just to keep the man he loves safe…from him. Can he resist temptation when his love lands on his doorstep in need of help? Eli has lusted after Keddrick from the moment the vampire stepped through the portal and into Earth. He had desperately wanted to follow along when Keddrick returned to Pavarus, but it wasn’t allowed—not to mention that Eli was under the impression that Keddrick was straight. Four years later his wish has come true, but not in the way he wanted. Barely escaping death by the hands of Wayland, head of the human council on Earth, Eli flees to Pavarus in search of help. The line of events that gets him there releases a hidden secret deep inside him he never knew existed, and will soon change his life forever. Keddrick’s restraint towards Eli is being seriously tested, and every day Eli stays with him at the coven, it gets harder. He wants to keep his distance, but at the same time he wants to do everything he can to please Eli. As time goes on, he feels his resolve slowly crumble, his love for the man too strong to ignore. When Keddrick finds out about Wayland’s threat on his and Eli’s lives, he is determined to stop the madman anyway he can, even if that means going against Eli’s pleas for him not to. Through blood and tears, years of love and moments of betrayal, can these two men find their way through the hardships and into a life of happiness in each other’s arms? Excerpt Eli stared in disbelief at the room he was standing in. It looked like something straight out of a Harry Potter movie. The shelves lining the wall to his left, and the walls on either side of the doorway, were filled with bottles, jars and small wooden boxes, all filled with who knew what. There were chalices and bowls, all of them silver, gold or wooden. There were trinkets, candles and some things that he didn’t recognise. The shelves along the right wall held what had to be over a hundred books, some of them giant tomes, all of them definitely old. A fire blazed warmly in the fireplace in the back of the room, with an honest to God cauldron sitting on the ground next to it. But the big wooden table in the middle of the room held Eli’s attention. All along the edge of the table closest to the door was a row of lit candles. Droplets of wax from the thick, white columns collected at their bases. Eli walked around the table so he could look at the book that lay open on an altar. The pages were old and thick and covered in strange writing. A stone bowl with a strange, oblong thing resting in it sat in the centre of the table on top of a black cloth with a pentagram stitched on it. There was a very beautiful chalice, a couple of smaller candles, a bowl filled with dried green leaves and… Holy hell, this is one interesting-looking knife. Eli picked up a small black pouch. After loosening the tie he looked inside. Frowning, he poured the contents onto the table. There were at least two dozen flat, oddly shaped white stones, each of them with a strange symbol painted on one side. “Do you like it?” Keddrick’s question startled Eli—he’d almost forgotten the vampire was there. Eli looked at Keddrick—if he didn’t know better, he could almost swear that Keddrick looked nervous. Then his question sank in. “Do I like it? Is this…? Is this all for me?” Keddrick didn’t speak, only nodded. Eli couldn’t believe it. Keddrick had done this for him? Eli had just found out that he was a witch, and Keddrick had had an entire room made up just for him. His heart swelled and he swallowed hard past the lump forming in his throat. This proved Keddrick really did care about him. Then why is he holding back from me? Eli circled the table and came to a stop in front of him, leaving little space between them. He watched the muscle in Keddrick’s jaw tick, his breathing becoming heavier when Eli leaned in just a little closer. He needed to be closer. He needed to touch and feel and taste. The ache in his chest was going to make him either crumble or float away. Memories of their first kiss flashed in his mind and he was lost. Eli wrapped his arms around Keddrick’s neck and crushed their mouths together. For a brief moment Keddrick stood stock still, but when the vampire’s arms wound around him and held him tight, he wanted to cry. Keddrick returned the kiss with a fervour that Eli had never experienced before. It was as if the vampire owned him…possessed him. He happily welcomed Keddrick’s tongue into his mouth. A moan echoed throughout the room. Whom it belonged to, he didn’t know and didn’t care. Eli dug his hands into Keddrick’s long, black hair, while Keddrick’s own hands were anywhere and everywhere. Keddrick turned them and pushed him up against the side of a shelf, settling himself between Eli’s thighs. Eli pushed forward, groaning in pleasure when their erections rubbed together. Keddrick clamped his hands down on Eli’s hips, holding the two of them together. The pressure was almost too much. He was so damn turned on, in another minute he’d be coming. The feel of Keddrick’s thick cock against his sent a shiver down his spine. Eli let his hands wander over the vampire’s chest and around to his back, relishing the feel of hard muscles beneath his fingertips. He slid his hands down farther then moaned when he grasped Keddrick’s ass and squeezed. They ground against each other—the pace quickening and becoming frantic. He glided his hands back up, unable to get enough. The feel of every dip and curve of Keddrick’s powerful body had Eli whimpering. I’ve waited so long for this. Keddrick devoured his mouth, swallowing the stream of moans Eli couldn’t keep in. Their breaths were heavy and hard, both of them seeming to never get enough air. Eli closed his eyes and deepened the kiss, and was blessed with a low groan from Keddrick. That sparked a new fire in him and Eli pushed his cock against Keddrick’s with more abandon, desperate for a release. So close, so close. The empty air before him came as such a surprise he actually stumbled. He looked up and stared in disbelief at Keddrick, who was now several feet away. The vampire’s eyes were wide and written with worry. Frustrated, he opened his mouth to ask ‘what the hell?’ but Keddrick quickly said, “I’m sorry, Eli.” He licked his lips and swallowed hard, the muscle in his jaw ticking again. Keddrick panted as hard as he was, his chest rising and falling deeply. The expression on his face changed, his mouth opened and closed, like he was grasping for something to say. “I’m sorry.” Then Eli was all alone and Keddrick was nowhere in sight. His shoulders slumped and he sank back against the shelf, his breath still coming in large gasps. He racked his brain trying to figure out what the hell had just happened, his mind spinning in circles over that last look on Keddrick’s face. Was that fear? What would Keddrick have to be afraid of? Morvea has all the elements of a splendid fantasy, dramatic action, poignant characters plus exceptionally sensual intimacy scenes. In this instalment it is Keddrick and Eli’s turn to come together, with each of them trying to protect the other from danger, discovering what the other has hidden and both of them feeling betrayal. They are perfect for each other and are a good fit, they strike sparks off each other and clash and inadvertently cause each other pain, but they are each trying to do the right thing. The storyline is really good and I loved how it played out, Jennifer Wright doesn’t pull her punches either so watch out for Jones. I love all the characters in this series and the way they work together, with the author weaving each character in so we get to know them and want their stories, I really can’t wait to read Zane and Larken’s story and I am hoping that Damien will get his own book; I also really want Aliam to have some happiness even if it is just finding peace. It was nice to see Wes and Remus and having them interacting with Keddrick and Eli without being overpowering, Ms Wright mixed them in nicely. I will recommend this to those who love parallel worlds, vampires, a mad human bent on domination, two hot men working out their problems, danger, hot sex and a happy ending with the promise of more to come.
